Amy Strike is a book artist and illustrator. She experiments with cutting, folding, and sculpting books to create the cities, dirigibles and disreputable characters of her imagination. She lives in Brighton, and displays her work at JAG gallery, and at exhibitions across the UK.
Amy uses paper, leather, gold leaf and thread. She uses glue and ink and fonts, and all of the materials found within a book to create her sculptures. Her work is a celebration of the book; an astonishing object which still (despite the rise of kindles) seems to speak right to the hindbrain in us. We still love books. They are package with worlds pressed between the pages, fragile paper ships containing all the best things about life: aliens and Victorians and Narnia; evil queens
and Hobbits; disenchanted Americans in sexy cars. Mr Darcy. Her artwork is both a celebration and an exploration of the book, and the ways in which we stitch together stories.
Amy has created bespoke pieces for ITV's Auction Party, and Elle Decoration, and recently won the Visitor's Choice Award for her work exhibited as part of the Brighton Dome's House Open exhibition.
