Willow

willowlogoWillow is the only UK charity supporting seriously ill 16-40 year olds to live their lives to the full by providing unique and positive Special Days.
At a time of uncertainty, a Special Day provides the inspiration to make every moment count. For some people it is a positive focus away from diagnosis and treatment and may be a final chance to create lasting memories. For others, it can mark the recovery from a serious illness, boost confidence and provide motivation to move forward with their lives.
Willow’s Special Days are so much more than just a day and their importance and impact cannot be overestimated. Indeed, recent independent research said that the results of Special Days were ‘astounding’ in their ability to provide ‘positive outcomes.’ Every one is unique as Willow tailors every Special Day to meet the needs of the individual.
The Special Day provides an uplifting and positive experience to be shared with a partner, parents, siblings, children or close friends. From the moment of application and the anticipation of the day to come, to the excitement of the day itself, a Special Day creates memories that are treasured forever.
To date Willow have fulfilled more than 10,000 Special Days for young adults living with life-threatening conditions such as cancer, motor neurone disease, cystic fibrosis and Huntington’s disease.
Founded in 1999 by former Arsenal goalkeeper and TV presenter, Bob Wilson and his wife, Megs, Willow is totally reliant on the generosity of individuals, companies and trusts / foundations to fund its work.

About Stars On Canvas

Stars on Canvas is a colourful and imaginative art project created by hundreds of well-known names from the worlds of art, illustration, sport, music and entertainment. Collectively, the canvases can be seen as an exploration of modern culture – how we come to revere a diverse range of stars for their particular talents, skills and personalities, and sometimes simply for their fame.

All canvases are sold online in aid of national charity, the Willow Foundation. The online auction is accompanied by a public exhibition.

Stars on Canvas was the brainchild of Brighton-based artist, Julie-Anne Gilburt. Julie-Anne both contributes artworks to the project and assists in colour enhancing some of the celebrity canvases.

About Julie-Anne Gilburt

jag-friends_191[1]Contemporary artist Julieanne Gilburt masterminded Stars on Canvas and has collaborated with the Willow Foundation since 2008 to bring the bi-annual project to life. Aside from opening up her address book and working with the team at Willow to secure the support of artists, she also uses her skills to colour-enhance the celebrity canvases.

Julieanne is one of the UK’s most gifted and vibrant artists. She has exhibited as far afield as Dubai, Los Angeles, New York, Dublin, Copenhagen and London. Since graduating in 1992, Julieanne has worked as an independent illustrator and teacher.

Julieanne is known principally for her seascapes and draws inspiration from the sea, city and local character of Brighton – as atmospheric as they are beautiful! Her portraits of Mike Tyson, Michael Watson and the angelic figure on the famous Fat Boy Slim greatest hits album are also amongst her most recognisable works.
